About Us

  We are a non-profit organization providing the preschool experience for children 2-5 years old. We pioneered a progressive three-year program in Eugene, which begins with the two-year-old and ends with the kindergarten-ready child. Our school has been in existence for over 60 years, serving Eugene families first as the Central Presbyterian Church Weekday Nursery School and since 1975 as The Big Little School.

Teaching Philosophy 

Play is the work of childhood. Hands-on learning experiences and explorations are the primary tools of this work. We feel that in a planned stimulating environment, play naturally fosters mental, physical, emotional, social and creative growth. We want to help each child learn self-discipline and healthy patterns of interactions with others. We believe that family is the primary teacher in a child’s life. Through communication between home and the school, we strive to satisfy the individual needs of each child and family in a warm, supportive environment. The staff publishes a monthly newsletter to keep parents informed of class activities, twice yearly conferences are scheduled to foster communications and additional family/teacher meetings are always welcome.  Interested parents are encouraged to share skills and assist with school events.

Our major goal is to work with your family to help your child develop a positive self-concept and to feel good about their school learning experiences. 

Visitation Policy

We welcome visitors who are interested in enrolling a child/children in our program; please contact the Director to arrange a visit. Parents of enrolled students are always welcome.
